Production Planner, Kanban - Ventrac

Summary:

The primary responsibility of this role will be to setup and maintain material flow routes in production. This includes setting up new part routes based on established rules and maintaining existing routes to meet manufacturing needs. Heavy emphasis on, but not limited to Kanban route setup and right sizing the containers, and batch sizes for best flow within and between each department. This person will aid in establishing and training best practices for reliable material supply. Working closely with the Lean, Process, and Production Scheduling teams to balance the WIP inventory.

Responsibilities:

• To be the boots on the ground for, audit, maintenance and troubleshooting of the established material flow routes
• Utilize and be proficient in Syspro, Ventrac Network, and other systems and tools
• Understand, practice, and implement lean principles
• Identify training focus and opportunities for the Kanban and batch system at VPI
• Perform system audits to ensure continued best practices for material flow
• Identify opportunity for improved part supply methods, containers, quantities
• Monitor and adjust part volumes to support growth
• Maintain the PFEP database
• Work with production scheduling to plan batch sizes and throughput volume
• Establish storage locations, cards, shelving, labels, and system values for Kanban and material flow implementation
• Investigate issues with material supply and work with process and manufacturing departments to implement corrective actions
• Communicate relevant material flow adjustments and processes to manufacturing departments
• Maintain a working knowledge of stocked items and Syspro as it pertains to inventory
• Highlight and pursue Continuous Improvement opportunities
• Other items related to material flow and manufacturing processes as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma, or equivalent
• Demonstrated leadership aptitude

• Successfully demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills professional, courteous, friendly and helpful
• Strong ability to read, understand and interpret mechanical and operational information effectively
• Self-motivated individual who understands the importance of time constraints
• Computer skills: Word, Excel, Internet
• Familiar with Lean Manufacturing methodology
