The Compliance Engineer develops and maintains The Toro Company (TTC) Engineering Standards and standard engineering tools. Works with design groups across the enterprise to ensure uniform use of TTC Engineering Standards. Works with TTC legal department to stay abreast of and communicate regulatory compliance issues as they relate to products for all of TTC’s brands.
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:
Establish engineering and technical limitations and applications for items, materials, processes, methods, designs, and engineering practices for use by designers of machines and equipment, such as turf maintenance machinery, construction equipment, consumer goods, and irrigation equipment.
Communicate with management of TTC divisions to maintain knowledge of current and proposed projects in order to develop appropriate internal TTC standards for design and production of new items.
Evaluate data in scientific journals, suppliers' catalogs, government or external industry standards, and other sources of information on materials, processes, and parts to update knowledge of available resources. Need to be familiar with ANSI, ISO or SAE standards.
Prepare specification sheets and standard drawings designating parts and materials acceptable for specific uses, using knowledge of primary engineering discipline and related disciplines.
Examine all factors involved to confirm that internal standards and previously released materials will result in most economic use of material and labor consistent with safety and durability of final product.
Collaborate with other departmental specialists to assure consistency with new or existing internal standards and those in other specialized disciplines.
Communicate with and present to user personnel to confirm knowledge of internal standards and cooperation of various project groups.
Serve as point of contact for classified parts regarding technical issues and issues common to multiple product groups or divisions.
Follow established procedures for retention of data developed to assure optimum storage and retrieval by manual or automated methods.
Consult and collaborate with legal personnel to determine applicability of laws, regulations, and directives as they apply to company products.
Collaborate with division personnel and legal department to determine technical strategies for compliance to legal and safety requirements (markings, machinery modification) to be met by engineering to sell TTC products in all applicable global markets.
Prepare and disseminate regulatory information to TTC engineering personnel to maintain compliance to national and international requirements.
Communicate/coordinate with IT technical support, CAEPS and other internal or external groups to choose, develop, and/or utilize software tools for use in regulatory compliance, customer requirements and/or engineering design tasks.
Work with interdisciplinary groups or specialization teams to develop expert knowledge base and provide consulting expertise as needed to design personnel when appropriate.
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or Agricultural Engineering required.
Engineer II-Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in internal standards development, regulatory-compliant product design, auditing, or compliance in a manufacturing environment.
Engineer III-Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in internal standards development, regulatory-compliant product design, auditing, or compliance in a manufacturing environment.
Engineer IV-Minimum of 7+ years of experience in internal standards development, regulatory-compliant product design, auditing, or compliance in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to investigate and define strategies to ensure cost-effective, efficient, low-risk project execution.
Excellent communication skills, ability to interact with all levels of personnel internally and externally, as well as with various groups, business functions and governmental agencies. Able to effectively convey proposed strategies and legal requirements to senior-level management.
Previous experience supervising the work of consultants or contract personnel is desirable.
Lean Enterprise or Six Sigma knowledge is desirable.
International experience and experience in international standards writing capacity is a plus.

Competitive Salary – The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
