As the Mechanical Designer, you will execute specific design phases of new product development, product redesigns or a complete design project as assigned, including design responsibility, direction of technicians, completing documentation, design for cost improvement, product quality improvement, legacy product maintenance and coordinating necessary activities with other departments and outside suppliers.
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:
Conceptualize and create designs to satisfy the product objectives related to the specific areas assigned.
Perform feasibility studies as required.
Assures the design specifications of the assigned area meet the overall approved specifications and performance objectives of the product.
Responsible for certain project management requirements for cross-functional teams and outside domestic and international vendors.
Prepare sketches, layouts, and analysis for assigned tasks.
Responsible for the assigned areas of design and assures that cost and timing meet the approved product program.
Research and propose materials and processes to be used in designs.
Responsible for the assigned areas of design to insure meeting the durability, performance, manufacturability, and quality criteria of the company plus Toro and industry safety standards.
Coordinates the assigned design work with the engineer and keeps him appraised of the status of the work. Also, may need to coordinate the work of drafters, model makers, technicians, and outside vendors.
Responsible for designs achieved with the assistance of Experimental Shop, Test, Drafting, and others assigned to product programs.
Responsible for continuous improvement activities such as Design for Cost Improvement (DCI), Product Quality Improvement (PQI), and Engineering Change Management where assigned.
Develop and execute releases, parts lists, assembly drawings, and ECO's.
Applies the "Total Quality" principles in daily performance of the job.
Performs other related duties as may be required.
CAD utilized to do project related work.
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
Required Qualifications
Associates in Drafting/Design, Mechanical Engineering Tech, or related (or equivalent experience).
Level determined by years of relevant designer experience in the outdoor power industry, agriculture, or construction related field:
Designer I = 0-2 years of experience
Designer II = 2-5 years of experience
Designer III = 5-10 years of experience
CAD fluent.
Microsoft Teams Fluent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors in related field.
SAP or other ERP systems experience.
ProE Experience.
Can communicate and work effectively across many levels and departments, where flexibility, adaptability, and resiliency are important.
Demonstrated ability to independently monitor multiple tasks and objectives at one time.
Experience with weldment design, injection molding, metal forming, powdered metal, casting, machining, and other manufacturing methods is preferred.
1-5 years corporate experience.
Other Job-Related Components:
Work Schedule: Expectations to be in office 5 days per week on a regular basis with occasional flexibility.
Working Conditions: In office working environment with access to fabrication and testing labs on site.
Travel: Minimal, occasional visits to the vendors, and test Sites, and manufacturing locations.

Competitive Salary – The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between $75,000 - $95,000. Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package.
