The Engineer, Product Development plays a critical role in supporting both production and development initiatives within the Siteworks specialty construction Engineering department. This position focuses on designing, improving, and optimizing specialty construction equipment with an emphasis on performance, durability, cost-efficiency, and manufacturability. The engineer will lead design efforts, collaborate across departments, and contribute to the continuous improvement of product lines tailored for niche construction applications.
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:
Design, develop, and enhance specialty construction equipment and related components for new and existing product lines.
Evaluate and recommend design specifications to ensure compliance with technical, functional, safety, and regulatory standards.
Conduct feasibility studies, performance assessments, and quality testing to validate design concepts.
Lead cross-functional project teams including manufacturing, procurement, and service to drive product-specific initiatives.
Serve as a subject matter expert in specialty equipment design, DFMA principles, and engineering workflows.
Collaborate with internal engineering and technical support teams to meet project milestones and deliverables.
Interface with suppliers and vendors to finalize designs and coordinate production implementation.
Maintain design documentation and contribute to continuous improvement within the engineering framework.
Travel to manufacturing, supplier locations, or tradeshows 1-2 times per month.
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Agricultural, or Aeronautical Engineering.
0–2 years of relevant experience (Engineer I level); 2+ years of relevant experience (Engineer II level); experience with construction or heavy equipment preferred.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) and inventory management systems.
Experience in design documentation, requirements gathering, testing analysis, and CAD modeling.
Familiarity with project management principles and tools.
Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation capabilities.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
Preferred experience:
Leadership or mentoring experience
EIT Certification or Professional Engineering License is a plus.

Competitive Salary – The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between $71700 - $90000. Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package. You may be eligible to participate in an incentive program, which rewards employees based on individual and organizational performance.
