Customs Compliance Specialist - The Toro Company

Your Opportunity:

The support Toro’s U.S. import and export operations by executing and continuously improving trade compliance processes, including tariff classification, valuation, country of origin determination, and customs broker management. This role serves as a key operational and compliance resource, working crossfunctionally to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant movement of goods while mitigating regulatory and financial risk. The position operates with increased autonomy and responsibility compared to entrylevel roles and supports audit readiness and process standardization.

Work Location / Other Components: 

  • This role will be based at the Bloomington, MN Toro's International Corporate Headquarters.  Fully remote is not available at this time. 

  • This role will require 5-days on site during training.The current team works 3-days on campus, with optional 2-days remote.  

  • Typical office environment as it pertains to lighting, temperature, and noise level when in administrative/operations offices.

  • May require occasional travel to other company sites, distribution centers, or supplier locations.

  • Position requires a high degree of communication and interaction with other areas of the company as well as customs brokers with ability to ensure detailed compliance with applicable U.S. and international regulations and Toro’s processes.

  • Ability to regularly follow detailed processes and analysis is required.

What Will You Do? Key Responsibilities:  

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for strategic inventory, planning & execution:

  • Tariff Classification & Trade Data Management

Analyze, research, assign, and maintain accurate Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), ECCN, and Country of Origin (COO) data for U.S. imports and exports in SAP; ensure updates are timely, accurate, and auditready.

  • Customs Broker Management

Administer and manage relationships with U.S. customs brokers, including responding to inquiries, resolving entry issues, validating data accuracy, and ensuring timely customs clearance. Serve as a primary operational point of contact for broker escalations and performance issues.

  • Entry Auditing & PostEntry Compliance

Perform audits of U.S. and Canada customs entries to identify errors, assess compliance risk, and coordinate corrective actions with brokers and internal stakeholders.

  • Invoicing & Financial Controls

Audit, process, log, and assign appropriate Toro account numbers to customs broker invoices; support accurate allocation of duties, taxes, and fees to appropriate cost centers.

  • Operational Execution & SAP Support

Ensure daily SAP uploads are completed, maintain traderelated SAP tables, prepare reports, and retain documentation in accordance with regulatory and internal recordkeeping requirements.

  • Duty Mitigation & Trade Programs

Support and administer duty mitigation programs (e.g., 9801, 9802, 9817) and assist with drawbackrelated activities, reporting, and documentation.

  • Process Documentation & Continuous Improvement

Create, maintain, and update documented procedures supporting U.S. import/export operations; identify process gaps and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.

  • Training & Internal Support

Educate and support internal customers on U.S. import/export requirements, broker processes, and data accuracy expectations.

  • Compliance Monitoring

Conduct routine compliance reviews, including COO markings and regulatory checks, and support internal audits and corrective action plans.

What Do You Need?  

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements: 

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, with 3+ years of demonstrated experience in international trade compliance will be considered.

  • Minimum of 3+ years in import/export operations, preferably in a manufacturing company or customs agency required.   

  • Progressive experience with HTS and tariff classifications required.

  • Ability and skill with multitasking in a fast paced and constantly changing regulatory environment.

  • Proven ability to analyze situations and take effective and accurate actions.

  • Exceptional attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage large workload and excel at prioritizing and organizing tasks.

  • Excellent follow-up and follow-through skills.

  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel, SAP experience preferred.

  • Experience working with mechanical and electrical products desired.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in international business, business administration, or similar preferred.

  • Knowledge of U.S. and other government regulatory agency requirements preferred.

  • Experience with software similar to Oracle or EE2Open.

  • Competitive Salary A reasonable salary estimate is $75,000-$85,000 for this opportunity.The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
