What Will You Do?

As a GIS Solutions Engineering Intern, you will work with the Ditch Witch/Subsite engineering and product management teams to develop innovative GIS-based solutions that improve the way underground utilities are located, mapped, and managed.

You will gain hands-on experience with the Esri ArcGIS platform while helping design customer workflows for municipalities, utility companies, engineering firms, and construction contractors.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop GIS workflows using the Esri ArcGIS platform to support utility locating and underground infrastructure management.

  • Configure and develop solutions utilizing ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise.

  • Create and enhance applications using Esri tools such as:

    • ​Survey123

    • Field Maps

    • Experience Builder

    • Dashboards

    • Web AppBuilder (where applicable)

    • Arcade expressions

    • Workflow Manager

  • Assist in developing customer workflows for:

    • Water utilities

    • Gas utilities

    • Electric utilities

    • Telecommunications providers

    • Municipal governments

    • Engineering firms

    • Construction contractors

  • Support the design and validation of GIS solutions integrating utility locating equipment with the Esri ecosystem.

  • Participate in customer demonstrations, proof-of-concept projects, and internal testing.

  • Work with engineering, product management, marketing, and customers to understand business problems and translate them into GIS-based solutions.

  • Develop technical documentation, training materials, workflow diagrams, and best practices.

  • Research emerging Esri technologies and recommend new capabilities that enhance utility locating workflows.

What Do You Need?

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements: 

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in one of the following:

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Computer Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Civil Engineering

  • Geomatics Engineering

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

  • Geographic Information Science

  • Or a closely related engineering discipline

Preferred:

  • GIS major or minor

  • Completion of sophomore year or higher

Preferred Technical Skills

Experience using one or more Esri technologies through coursework, internships, research, or personal projects, including:

  • ArcGIS Pro

  • ArcGIS Online

  • ArcGIS Enterprise (preferred)

  • Survey123

  • Field Maps

  • Experience Builder

  • Dashboards

  • Arcade scripting

  • Workflow Manager

  • Story Maps (preferred)

Knowledge of:

  • GIS data models

  • Feature services

  • Web maps

  • Mobile GIS workflows

  • Utility network concepts

  • GPS/GNSS technologies

  • Spatial analysis

  • Geodatabases

Programming experience in one or more of preferred:

  • Python

  • JavaScript

  • SQL

  • C#

  • HTML/CSS

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly.

  • Ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary engineering teams.

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

  • Interest in underground utility infrastructure, mapping technologies, and digital transformation.

Preferred Experience

Candidates who have completed academic projects, research, internships, or personal projects using Esri software are strongly encouraged to apply.

Examples include:

  • Designing GIS workflows

  • Building Survey123 forms

  • Creating ArcGIS Dashboards

  • Developing Arcade expressions

  • Configuring Experience Builder applications

  • Building ArcGIS Online web maps

  • Developing Field Maps workflows

  • Supporting municipal or utility GIS projects

  • Using GPS/GNSS data collection systems
