The Hydraulic Engineer is responsible for researching, designing, and developing hydraulic and mechanical systems for Ditch Witch® products. This role involves close collaboration with component suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic disciplines. The engineer may also lead and mentor designers, drafters, and technicians, while contributing to various stages of product development and testing.
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:
Analyze product specifications and performance requirements to design hydraulic systems that optimize performance, functionality, cost, and manufacturability.
Select and integrate hydraulic components such as pumps, motors, and valves into mobile equipment.
Ensure seamless integration of hydraulic systems with mechanical, electrical, and electronic subsystems.
Direct and participate in the construction and testing of prototypes to evaluate system performance and functionality.
Review product designs for compliance with engineering standards, company policies, and customer requirements.
Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to gather input and ensure product designs meet project goals and manufacturability standards.
Create and maintain essential design documentation, including 3D models, schematics, drafts, and technical publications.
Assist in analyzing machine behavior and performance, and configure mechanical systems that interface with hydraulic components.
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related field.
Level I – Less than 2 years of experience in hydraulic system design or related product development roles.
Level II – Minimum of 2+ years of experience in hydraulic system design or related product development roles.
Level III – Minimum of 5+ years of experience in hydraulic system design or related product development roles.
Level IV - Minimum of 8+ years of experience in hydraulic system design or related product development roles.
Proven expertise in mobile equipment hydraulic systems.
Strong interest in mobile equipment design, operation, and field performance.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Competitive Salary – The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between $66900 - $130000. Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package. You may be eligible to participate in an incentive program, which rewards employees based on individual and organizational performance.
