Industrial Designer I at Ditch Witch:

As part of the Ditch Witch® division of The Toro Company, this individual will contribute to industry-leading innovation in the development of Ditch Witch® products. Primary duties relate to the overall appearance of products and the human to machine interface. This position uses various media to create concept sketches, drawings, and renderings. This person may also create solid models and detailed drawings using computer software tools. The Industrial Designer is actively involved in the building of physical models and mock-ups. This individual works closely with product engineering teams and product marketing functions plus performs other duties as assigned.

What Will You Do?

• Determine a broad range of machine attributes related to human factors and appearance. These attributes will include, but not be limited to:
  • Machine shape and color schemes.
  • Spatial relationships of operator stations.
  • Control and display configuration, location, and function.
• Direct and physically participate when needed in the construction of scale mock-ups and models to evaluate the design and functionality of the product.
• Physically participate when needed in the construction and testing of prototypes to evaluate the design and functionality of the product.
• Analyze product specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which provide a good balance of performance, functionality, cost, and ease of manufacture.
• Review product designs for compliance with standard engineering practices, company and industry standards, regulatory requirements, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
• Create, maintain, and/or direct the creation/maintenance of essential design information and documentation including models, drafts, and renderings.
• Provide solutions to complex and challenging issues while balancing workload among multiple projects and priorities.

What Do You Need?

• Bachelor's degree in industrial design, engineering, graphic arts, or drafting.
• Ability to construct full scale mockups using commonly available materials such as wood, cardboard, foam, and in-system parts.
• Visual communication skills including the ability to make sketches, renderings, and drawings both by hand and with computer software tools.
• A strong interest in the design and use of mobile equipment.
• Working knowledge of 3D CAD software such as Creo, Solid Edge, or SOLIDWORKS and illustration tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Keyshot, or Alias are pluses.

Work Environment:

• Located at the Ditch Witch® division headquarters in Perry, OK.
• Regular, extended use of a computer.
• Office environment most of the time with occasional trips to the shop and outside work. The shop and outdoor environments include physical hazards such as utilities (typically gas, electric, and water lines), powered vehicles, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic, sharp objects, and moving machinery. Outdoor environment includes work in all kinds of weather while operating and demonstrating machinery and construction site conditions such as open excavations, unimproved land, incomplete structures, etc.
• Working with hazardous materials, including fuels, lubricants, solvents, and batteries.
• Use of hand tools such as knives, saws, wrenches, and glue guns.
• Occasional travel by air or automobile. 
• Rapidly changing workload, demands, schedules, and deadlines.

• Competitive Salary– The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between ​$59,300-​$70,000​. Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package. You may be eligible to participate in an incentive program, which rewards employees based on individual and organizational performance.
