The Power Systems Engineer researches and designs components and power systems for Ditch Witch® products specifically related to the efforts of electrification and alternative energy application. He or she uses CAD equipment to create or modify model files of machine components and systems and works closely with various component suppliers and other engineers that have mechanical, electrical, and/or hydraulic responsibilities. This employee directs the work of drafter/illustrators, layout personnel, and technicians, and performs other duties as assigned.

Provides systems-level direction for the application of new technologies related to alternative energy and electrification across the Ditch Witch® product portfolio.
Analyzes product and component specifications & performance requirements to determine designs which provide a good balance of performance, functionality, cost & ease of manufacture.
Directs & physically participates when needed in the construction & testing of prototypes to evaluate the design & functionality of the product.
Acts as a technical lead for systems design and selection of components related to the application of alternative energy and electrified powertrains.
Solicits & evaluates input from various sources concerning product design & functionality to meet project & customer requirements & manufacturability of product designs.
Reviews product design for compliance with standard engineering practices, company & industry standards, customer contact requirements & related specifications.
Creates, maintains, &/or directs the creation/maintenance of essential design information & documentation including models, drafts, schematics & purchased part documentation as well as supporting technical publications.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Office environment most of the time with regular trips to the shop and outside work.
Shop and outdoor environments include physical hazards such as utilities (typically gas, electric, and water lines), powered vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic, sharp objects, and moving machinery. Outdoor environment includes work in all kinds of weather while operating and demonstrating machinery and construction site conditions such as open excavations, unimproved land, uncompleted structures, etc.
Working with hazardous materials, including fuels, lubricants, solvents, and batteries.
Occasional overnight travel.
Rapidly changing workload, priorities, demands, schedules, and deadlines.
Regular, continuous use of a personal computer.
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in an ABET-accredited Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, EET or MET, or equivalent program.
Engineer III – Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a product design or related engineering role.
Engineer IV – Minimum of 7+ years of experience in a product design or related engineering role.
Engineer V – Minimum of 10+ years of experience in a product design or related engineering role.
Experience with the application of alternative energy and/or electrified powertrain systems is preferred.
Experience with systems design regarding engines, drivetrains, and other conversion of energy for the purposes of machine work is preferred.
Experience with CAD software & solid modeling.
Interest in mobile equipment design and operation.

Competitive Salary – The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between $88500 - $150000. Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package. You may be eligible to participate in an incentive program, which rewards employees based on individual and organizational performance.
