Prototype Technician, Day Shift - Ditch Witch

Day Shift, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM with overtime as necessary, Monday-Friday

Typical starting pay, $23.10/hr.-$35.00/hr.

Prototype Technician at Ditch Witch:

The Prototype Test Technician – Layout Welder is responsible for laying out and welding prototype weldments. The role will require an understanding of the application of the weldment and the stresses it will endure. It also involves collaborating with Design Engineers to drive continuous improvement in product design, manufacturability, and functionality.

What Will You Do?

• Read design prints and model files and identify issues.
• Document and report issues.
• Communicate with Design regarding any foreseeable issues with welding, manufacturing or functionality.
• Assist with repairing prototype weldments that fail in the field and potentially troubleshooting the failure.
• Conduct model reviews prior to weldment release and provide feedback on welding process.
• Determine the welding process needed. Layout prototype components. Complete the weldment.
• Work independently some of the time, with limited supervision.
• Meet or exceed typical expectations for production, quality, and safety.
• Have a good attitude and work well in a team setting.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What Do You Need?

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
  Prototype Technician I - min. 3 years’ experience.
• Prototype Technician II - min 5 years’ experience.
• Prototype Technician III - 10+ years’ experience.
• Strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication, teamwork, flexibility, motivation, dependability etc.
• Demonstrate troubleshooting capability.
• Print-reading.
• Ability to determine appropriate weld process and sequence.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.

Work Environment:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Provide hands-on support to operations and engineering teams as needed.
• Collaborate with engineers, other technicians, vendors, designers, drafters etc. and management personnel.
• Help with repair and maintenance of machines and test fixtures.
