MAJOR PROCESS:

Supports new product development and sustaining activities by researching, planning and designing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.  Directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, sustaining and repair of mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.

ESSENTIAL Duties and Responsibilities(will include but are not limited to):

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application. Designs products or systems such as instruments, controls, robots, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems. Supports/participates in cross-functional development teams to plan, schedule and implement project requirements, specifications, cost targets and performance criteria. Prepares or modifies scaled, detailed and accurate mechanical layouts and drawings of new or existing designs and assemblies utilizing CAD. Prepares tolerance studies of new and existing designs Participates in Failure Effects Modes Analysis (FMEA) and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) Creates product specifications that meet the marketing requirments. Creates quality specifications to meet product requirements in the field. Plans and directs personnel in the fabrication of prototypes, testing of products per quality specifications, in the fabrication of test fixtures and assembly fixtures and in the selection of raw and purchased materials. Makes disposition decisions on parts that deviate from print through the Material Review Board process. Provides sustaining engineering support to the plants to implement design changes, process improvements and cost reduction projects.

Prepare presentations for senior management and/or marketing on ongoing designs and new innovations. Maintain a project book (hard copy) or computerized projects files Participate in brain storming sessions Performs other required duties as needed in addition to the essential duties and responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and /or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Education:  B.E./ B. Tech in mechanical engineering, or equivalent engineering program

Experience:  3-5 years of experience.

Language Skills: 

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, legal documents and financial reports.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.  Ability to effectively present information to top management.

Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of and ability to effectively use personal computer and proficient in MS Office products.  Knowledge of Microsoft Project desired.  General knowledge and experience with CAD systems such as Pro/E, Solid Works and AutoCAD.  Knowledge of systems applications software, i.e., SAP desirable.

Mathematical Skills:

  • In addition to the above, ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, algebra and advanced statistical theory.  Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations and proofs of theorems.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
