Customer Service Technician II at The Toro Company:

The Customer Service Technician II performs tests and repairs on a variety of electronic and/or mechanical Toro and/or Irritrol controllers returned from the field. Builds and tests refurbished controllers. Ensures repaired controllers meet established specifications.

What Will You Do?

  • Performs diagnostic on the returned controller to diagnose the cause of the malfunction.  Makes adjustments or repairs accordingly. Tests circuit boards and components to locate defects.  Replaces or repairs defective circuit boards and components.

  • May converse with the customer to ascertain the problem with equipment and to determine if equipment failure is due to normal wear, water damage, weather, or other factors. Determines if repair is within warranty guidelines and if not, provides repair estimate to the customer.

  • Tests, adjusts, and calibrates controller according to specifications.

  • Maintains records of repairs, calibrations, and tests in a computerized system.

  • Reassembles unit and prepares for Shipment or Stock (Bank) as applicable.

  • Maintains adequate Stocks (Bank) of repaired controllers of specific model types assigned to them, per the monthly schedule provided by the Manager.

  • Perform other required duties as needed in addition to the essential duties and responsibilities just described.

  • Accountable for all tools issued to perform job tasks.

What Do You Need?

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Coursework in reading Schematics and Bills of Materials and basic Technical documentation preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years experience building, testing and/or repairing mechanical or electronic products. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to troubleshoot product failures (electronic and/or mechanical).

  • Must have the ability to effectively use various electronic, hand, and power tools and test equipment.

  • Demonstrated ability to solder (through-hole and surface-mount) and de-solder. 

  • Ability to use precision measuring devices, Oscilloscopes, and Electronic Test Instrumentation.

  • Ability to use computers and associated software. 

  • Ability to work in a team environment and be a strong team contributor.

  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and interpret documents such as schematics, blueprints, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Work Environment: 

  • Climate controlled.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

  • As necessary, available to work overtime.
