Who Are We?  

Toro’s Irrigation and Lighting business is located in Riverside, CA. The Toro Company’s irrigation business is comprised of two distinct brands, Toro® and Irritrol®. Both brands offer a full line of solid, dependable, irrigation products including controllers, sensors, valves, spray heads and rotors to help customers care for golf courses, sports fields, public green spaces, commercial and residential properties. Unique Lighting Systems is a leading brand of professional grade lighting fixtures, low voltage transformers, LED lamps and the patented HUB system for installation. Serving both residential and commercial markets, Unique Lighting Systems offers a full line of outdoor lighting products. 

The Design Engineer supports new product development and sustaining activities by researching, planning and designing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.  Directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, assembly, operation, application, installation and repair of mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.

What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:  

  • Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.

  • Supports/participates in cross-functional development teams to plan, schedule and implement project requirements, specifications, cost targets and performance criteria.

  • Prepares or modifies scaled, detailed and accurate mechanical layouts and drawings of new or existing designs and assemblies utilizing CAD.

  • Prepares tolerance studies of new and existing designs

  • Participates in Failure Effects Modes Analysis (FMEA) and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) Creates product specifications that meet the marketing requirements.

  • Creates quality specifications to meet product requirements in the field.

  • Plans and directs personnel in the fabrication of prototypes, testing of products per quality specifications, in the fabrication of test fixtures and assembly fixtures and in the selection of raw and purchased materials.

  • Makes disposition decisions on parts that deviate from print through the Material Review Board process.

  • Provides sustaining engineering support to the plants to implement design changes, process improvements and cost reduction projects.

What Do You Need?

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or engineering discipline that must have mechanical experience from anAccreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university

  • Engineer II-2-4 years relevant experience

  • Engineer III-5+ years relevant experience.

  • Must have knowledge of and ability to effectively use personal computer and proficient in MS Office products:Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Microsoft Project desired.

  • Knowledge and experience with ProE, SolidWorks and AutoCad a must or similar CAD program.

Preferred experience:

  • Knowledge of systems applications software, i.e., SAP desirable. Stress Analysis applications experience nice to have.

  • PrOE and/or Windchill

Competitive Salary – The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between ​$82700 - ​$120000​. Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package. You may be eligible to participate in an incentive program, which rewards employees based on individual and organizational performance.
