The Toro Company's Shakopee plant is the largest non-engine supplier to toro with 125,000 square feet of production facility. The Toro Company (NYSE: TTC) is a leading worldwide provider of innovative solutions for the outdoor environment, including turf, snow and ground-engaging equipment, and irrigation and outdoor lighting solutions. This location produces professional and residential component products. Employees at this modern facility provide precise cutting products, machine components, tooled stampings, and metal fabrication for assembly at other TTC manufacturing facilities. For over 100 years, our ideas have transformed the way professionals and homeowners care for their outdoors, including many leading sports venues and historic sites around the world.
The Manufacturing Engineer or Manufacturing Engineer Specialist for Cutting Products reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, responsible for determining methods, processes, and equipment required in the manufacturing of bedknives and reels for mowers primarily used on golf courses. Responsible for developing, analyzing and documenting cost information for new product development, design and cost improvement, maintenance, and managing product cost to target. Specifically, Manuf. Engr. Support for grinding and associated manufacturing operations to support products in the Cutting Products Value Stream at TORO factory in Shakopee, MN.
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:
Provides engineering expertise to aid in the development of annual and long-term manufacturing business plans focused on bedknives and reels. Designs, justifies, develops and implements the manufacturing engineering portions of the plans.
Prepares IARs; coordinates the investigation, selection, installation, prove-out and training to successfully integrate projects into the factory.
Reviews new parts in the concept stage. Makes recommendations to standardize features, promote cost effective zero defect manufacturing, and improve functionality that support DFMA.
Determine parts to be produced within the Cutting Products Value Stream. Provides manufacturing input and coordination to Corp. Design project teams to assure timely and effective new part introductions, primarily, manufacturing of bedknives, but also the manufacture of reels in a backup capacity.
Prepares supporting documentation (cost estimate/tooling budgets) for new project development milestones and all other product revisions, as assigned.
Provides analyzed cost data to Engineering, Marketing, and Finance for use in determining project direction, product pricing, parts pricing, and internal rate of return investment calculations.
Provides direct interface to Corp. Engineering on process capability, materials utilization, and design alternatives to optimize value.
Continually pursue cost savings initiatives plantwide.
Analyze and provide solutions for problems which adversely affect quality, productivity, safety, flexibility and cost. Participation on RPS/RCCM Corrective Action teams.
Develop, update and maintain process documentation and costing data for manufacturing equipment. Support creation and maintenance of SOPs, standard work, ancillary lean documentation.
Review and evaluate the sourcing of parts pertaining to the production unit. Recommend alternate sourcing when appropriate. Provide direction for long term sourcing decisions.
Provide support for key or specialized processes with functions such as tool design, tool layouts, CNC programming, set-up data/procedures and metallurgical analysis.
Apply Total Quality, Project Management and LEAN principles in the daily performance of the job.
Engagement on plant-wide teams, such as: safety committee, employee club, kaizen events, SafeStart instructor, ad hoc CA teams, monthly STOP safety audits, etc.
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
Manufacturing Engineer-Bachelors of Science in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of five (5) years’ related experience OR
Manufacturing Engineer Specialist-2 year technical degree in machine tool technology in similar manufacturing engineer work and minimum of ten (10) years’ experience
Preferred:
Experience in metal fabrication processes and technologies.
Working knowledge of CNC programming on grinders and machining centers.
Strong technical skill or education.
Strong project management skills.
Strong employee/customer relations skills
Good computer software skills: MS suite, Excel, Teams
Knowledge of SAP MRP system to include creation of part routings and BOMs
CAD/CAM: Creo, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam
JOB DIMENSIONS:
Reports to the Engineering Supervisor
Position is day shift. Full time. Monday-Friday.
Travel required is <5%.

Competitive Salary – The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between $71700- $120000. Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package. You may be eligible to participate in an incentive program, which rewards employees based on individual and organizational performance.
