Your Opportunity:

The Field Service Technician, 50% Travel supports the sales and marketing efforts for American Augers and the Ditch Witch Division. He or she will provide direct sales support, equipment training, and other factory-related assistance to Ditch Witch dealers, dealership personnel, and direct customers. This requires establishing and maintaining positive relationships with existing and potential customers including Ditch Witch dealers. The employee must demonstrate a high level of technical expertise related to all segments of our product line. The employee also performs other duties as assigned.

Work Location / Environments:

  • This is a hybrid opportunity is based out of Perry, Oklahoma (Ditch Witch Division Headquarters) or West Salem, Ohio (American Augers Division Headquarters).  (Other job locations such as Remote Texas will be considered, with relevant prior experience).

  • 50% Travel will be required. Most frequently with less than 24 hours' notice to be dispatched to a field repair on site, trade and equipment shows, etc. Travel and repair/maintenance needs could be 2-3 days, or 2-3 weeks in duration before our staff returns home.

  • Flexibility with rapidly changing schedules, deadlines, and other work requirements is required.

  • Outdoor environment includes work in all kinds of weather while operating and demonstrating machinery and construction site conditions such as open excavation, unimproved land and uncompleted structures, etc.

  • Regular, extended use of the telephone and computer.Office environment part-time, regular trips to the shop and outside work. The shop and outdoor environment include physical hazards such as utilities (typically gas, electric, and water, communication and fiber optic lines) powered vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic, sharp objects and moving machinery.

What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for: 

  • Read, analyze, understand, and interpret information from a variety of sources.

  • Create and maintain business relationships with all Ditch Witch and American Augers dealers.

  • Help train and promote sales of American Augers and Ditch Witch products to all customers.

  • Assist Regional Managers in planning and conducting sales training programs, including equipment demonstrations, equipment shows, dealership training events, and customer-delivered training events.

  • Demonstrate American Augers and Ditch Witch equipment, including choosing suitable demonstration sites, setting up equipment, operating equipment, locating existing utilities, and explaining features and benefits.

  • Troubleshoot problems with heavy construction equipment, including monitoring equipment performance during operation, running systems tests, diagnosing issues, and correcting problems.

  • Maintain positive professional relationships with dealers, customers, and American Augers and Ditch Witch factory personnel.

  • Make presentations to groups, including gathering, organizing, and effectively communicating technical information about technical systems.

  • Exhibit organizational skills, leadership, technical knowledge, and a strong focus on safety.

  • Participate in training activities such as learning product lines, developing curriculum, answering product-related questions, and supporting training schools for both teaching and learning purposes.

What Do You Need?

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements: 

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active and vaild USA passport and driver's licence at all times.

  • Must be 18+ years old due to car-rental policies in the USA.

  • High School Diploma required;plus a minimum of 1-5 years of relevant Ditch Witch, American Augers or related experience, at a minimum.

  • Prior demonstrated success with appropriate knowledge and skill in demonstrating American Augers and Ditch Witch products.

  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems and determine how to correct them using blueprints, electrical and hydraulic schematics, technical, operations, and service repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills. This includes the ability to present technical information to groups and individuals.

  • Have appropriate correspondence, record keeping and computer/ information Technology and enterprising skill sets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in marketing, business, engineering or related field is preferred.

  • Generator / AC Systems (480V) Experience is helpful.

  • HVAC knowledge is helpful, not necessarily required.

  • Computer/Microsoft skills are a necessary skill to have in this position.

Job Title:

The job title will be based on academic and prior years of directly related experience:

  • Field Service Technician / Product Sales Specialist I – 1-5 years experience in sales and marketing; Upon training, be able to operate and effectively demonstrate heavy construction equipment. This includes work in “the field” or in “dynamic/active” construction site conditions.

  • Field Service Technician / Product Sales Specialist II – 5-10 years of experience in the training field or equivalent of American Augers or Ditch Witch related skills. Training and experience in sales and marketing and a very high level of technical expertise related to our product line or the underground industry is preferred. He or she must have high-level of instructor led traits and skills, including a high-level of customer service, empathy and people skills.

  • Field Service Technician / Product Sales Specialist III - 10+ years of American Augers or Ditch Witch experience or equivalent in a related field. Training and experience in sales and marketing and a very high level of technical expertise related to our product line or the underground industry is preferred. He or she must have high-level of instructor led traits and skills, including a high-level of customer service, empathy and people skills. Be an excellent team builder. This person must exhibit a high level of competency and be a complex problem solver.

  • Competitive Salary A reasonable pay range for this opportunity is $65,000-$89,000.The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
