American Augers, located in West Salem, Ohio is a division of The Toro Company. American Augers builds the largest horizontal directional drills in the industry, and a full range of auger boring machines. Under the general direction of the Director of Operations, the Operations Manager at American Augers will play a crucial role in achieving manufacturing objectives. This position focuses on cost-effective, on-time delivery by developing, recommending, and implementing policies, procedures, budgets, and operating objectives. As a department leader, you will support the development and execution of long-term strategic plans for the manufacturing group, making independent decisions at the department level, and consulting with the Director of Operations for decisions impacting timelines, profit margins, other departments, and capitalized projects.

Assures component parts are manufactured and available per the Master Schedule, conforms to specification and are produced in a cost effective manner.
Responsible for creating an environment which values employees, serves our customers and provides a fair return to owner.
Assures excellent housekeeping, productivity and work habits are maintained.
Responsible for timely production of service parts to assure a superior level of customer service.
Responsible for timely assembly and shipping of large machine builds.
Responsible for all operator preventive maintenance needs of the facility.
Closely teams and communicates with other areas of the plant, divisions, and company.
Assures the efficient handling and control of W.I.P. inventory.
Assures capital equipment is fully utilized and proper operator P.M. schedules are developed and maintained.
Articulates company, divisional, and facility objectives and performance through effective communication that may include regular staff and plant group meetings.
Recommends and implements changes to stay competitive in all areas of quality, cost, product availability, inventory control, customer service and employee relations.
Communicates effectively at all levels in the organization to keep manufacturing on track with corporate/division objectives.
Leads manufacturing in applying the principles of “Lean Manufacturing” in the work place.
Performs related duties and special projects as assigned.
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical or industrial engineering or equivalent technical/professional training.
Extensive experience in a job-shop or high mix/low volume facility, with vertical integration to include machine shop, fabrication and assembly required.
5 years or more experience in a production factory
Demonstrated leadership experience in coordinating with and overseeing entry level to senior-level professionals
Willingness to raise standards each year to drive organizational excellence
Track record of improving team performance and work practice through team coaching
Demonstrated ability of mastery required to use supporting department systems including, financial tools, IT systems, mechanical or physical operations of the department.
Proven experience in operations management, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Strong leadership and team development skills.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment.
Commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in OEM capital equipment manufacturing and assembly preferred.

Competitive Salary – The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between $117900 - $150000. Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package. You may be eligible to participate in an incentive program, which rewards employees based on individual and organizational performance.
