As a key member of Toro Corporate Sourcing, this position partners internally with Engineering, Businesses, Commodity Teams and Plants as well as externally with Suppliers to develop and implement initiatives to sculpt a world class supply base that creates sustained competitive advantage for Toro.

What Will You Do?

  • Collaborate with suppliers to identify improvement opportunities and lead/facilitate implementation of such projects towards improving quality/capability/productivity and reducing variability using six sigma methodology/lean techniques.

  • Establish direct working relationships with key Suppliers to ensure sustained continual improvement towards mutual benefit for Toro, our end Customers and Suppliers.

  • Collaborate with internal partners to minimize total-cost-of-ownership and price-of-non-conformance by identifying opportunities and implementing improvements.

  • Facilitate problem solving and implementation of corrective actions to resolve supplier quality issues.

  • Manage supplier quality performance (balanced scorecard) by periodically reviewing/analyzing performance data and by monitoring their progress. Lead performance improvement programs with those suppliers who have chronic quality issues.

  • Support suppliers in their effort to implement quality management systems and quality engineering tools.

  • Oversee implementation of PPAP and other quality planning related activities at supplier side during qualification phase. Support the implementation of initiatives related to Supply Chain Management such as Advanced Product Quality Planning and Failure Analysis.

  • Lead/participate on cross-functional teams in the assessment of new and existing Supplier’s capabilities, strengths, opportunities for improvement and level of risks presented to Toro.

  • Assess risk associated with quality issues. Prepare mitigation plan and follow through on implementing mitigation plan/controls to minimize identified risks.

  • All other duties and tasks as assigned.

Job Dimensions

  • Position works closely with both internal and external resources in the areas of quality planning, corrective action and continuous improvement. 

  • Must be able to work independently, represent Toro in a professional manner, able to make sound decisions, and have exceptional communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Support of plants, divisions, production and New Product Development Sourcing.

  • Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally (up to 20%)

What Do You Need?

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (such as Quality, Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering) preferred; or Bachelor’s degree in related field with progressive experience in quality roles working with suppliers

  • Supplier Quality Engineer III 0-5 years of manufacturing experience in a quality, engineering, supply chain, or similar required

  • Supplier Quality Engineer IV 5+ years of manufacturing experience in a quality, engineering, supply chain, or similar required

  • Three plus years experience driving supplier quality development with strong planning, analysis, and problem resolution tools

  • ASQ certification in the areas of Quality Engineering, Reliability, Six Sigma, Quality Management or professional (IATCA / RAB) auditing certification preferred

  • Must be skilled in the assessment of manufacturing processes, use of SPC, experience in Microsoft Office suite and ERP systems, preferably SAP

  • Competitive Salary – The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
